If Wednesday night's crowd is any indication, the fabulous 80's are still very much alive and well...and living in the Vail Valley's closets as a vast array of crazies of all shapes and sizes descended on Vail Village for the final Bud Light Street Beat show of the season, featuring Chadzilla & The Asteroids.
As Chad and company cranked out the tunes that transported the overflow crowd back to the days when everything was neon and the standup video game ruled the universe, the percentage of concert-goers clad in leg warmers, track suits, shoulder pads and Madonna lingerie outerwear grew with each new rendition of Van Halen, AC/DC and U2.
Of course, the chance to win a new pair of Atomic Snoop Daddies skis for the best 80's costume certainly did not dampen anyone's 80's enthusiasm, but there were those that obviously vowed to dress the part, contest or not.
In addition to the contest and the awarding of the Volvo C-30 Grand Prize to Reyna Romero of Leadville, the evening was capped off with an impromptu "stage show" as six young ladies, fluent in 80's fashion, headed out onto the stage to provide "rhythmic accompaniment" to the band's encore.
All in all, it was most certainly a night for the ages, at least 1980-89, but then that comes from someone whose wardrobe is an 80's revival, in and of itself.
