Outdoor Retailer - Final Day

We hit the road this morning at about 10am attempting to beat what appeared to be a large storm bearing down on this area. Funny how along the way we kept finding Teva Mountain Games materials.

A special thanks goes out again to our partners at Teva for giving us booth space at Outdoor Retailer.

See you all in Vail June 4-7 for the 2009 Teva Mountain Games!

Outdoor Retailer - Day 3

Our third day today at Outdoor Retailer was an incredibly productive one. As is the case with any event the size and scope of the Teva Mountain Games there are a lot of moving parts. Being our first year producing this particular event we are finding ourselves constantly working hard to connect the dots and align all the pieces as we progress. Our meetings today with partners like Outside, USA Climbing and Wink Inc. were very helpful. We look forward to working with you all on the 2009 games and it was fantastic finally meeting each one of you.

We have been working a lot with our title sponsor, Teva, in the past few weeks and can not say enough about their involvement with this event. They have been a huge reason why the Teva Mountain Games has become what it is today... once you meet them and have a chance to interact with their staff it becomes even more apparent. Their creativity and outside the box thinking is truly inspirational.

After our busy day at O.R. we headed over to a local planetarium for a 3D IMAX showing of their movie Grand Canyon Adventure: A River at Risk. Being river enthusiasts ourselves (two members of our staff ran the Grand this summer), we all enjoyed the film and it's message. Water conservation is a huge issue for us here and since many of us play in and around the Colorado River headwaters the message hit home.

We must comment at this point about the strange weather here in Salt Lake today. Check out some of the photos below... there has been a temperature inversion that engulfs everything in a fog. Hopefully the rain and fog we see here in Salt Lake equates to powder in the Utah high-country for our powder skiing brethren.

Outdoor Retailer - Day 2

Today was the first official day of Outdoor Retailer. WOW, let us just say that this place is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts like us. Literally every single outdoor brand we can think of is here showing off their new goods.

Highlights from today included random bouldering breaks on the climbing walls, meetings and introductions with many journalists and our first public (kind of) event for the Teva Mountain Games: an Outdoor Retailer kegger.

Having a keg at a tradeshow is always a little tricky. Having a keg at a tradeshow in Utah is not only tricky, it's expensive. You can't for example just wheel in a keg that you acquired from a great VVF partner like Anheuser Busch -- that would be too easy. Instead, one must pay like 5 times the fair market value for the keg (at a 3.2% alcohol level) and also hire an union keg technician.

At first we balked at the idea of hiring someone to pour our beer for us... we all spent plenty of time in college and have that skill mastered. However, when all was said and done it was nice having them there so we could meet some new people, and enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Outdoor Retailer - Day 1

We made the long trip from the Vail Valley to Salt Lake City today for Outdoor Retailer and the Teva Mountain Games. Our partners at Teva graciously give us some space in their booth to promote the event, hand out materials and luckily for us... throw a kegger.

We don't have much to post today and are a little beat from traveling, however, we will leave our dedicated blog readers with the photo below. Strange how even in Utah our Teva Mountain Games materials turn up at truck stops and road side pull outs. Special thanks again to Teva for throwing down some booth space for us. It was nice meeting many of you for the first time today.

This open rehearsal will take place at 1:30pm on Saturday, January 24. To RSVP for the 5 Browns open rehearsal please contact Heather Florio at hflorio@vvf.org or 748-6643.

From Venice to the VPAC

No musical ensemble better captures the romance and mystery of Venice than Interpreti Veneziani. The third installment of the 2008-2009 Classical Series, we are excited to welcome these master musicians from Italy to Beaver Creek for their performance on 1.13.09. For more information about this performance, or to purchase tickets please CLICK HERE.
Playing over 200 concerts annually in the famed San Vidal Church in Venice (where Antonio Vivaldi regularly played) this ensemble of master musicians have been bringing the emotion and passion of the city of canals to audiences all over the world since 1987.

“Rapturous applause brought the group back to the stage for not one, but three incredible encores. … This was a dream evening of exquisite music and musicianship, the awakening from which was reluctantly undertaken,” wrote Bermuda’s Royal Gazette.

Talon Crew Photos!

A couple photos from the 2008 Audi Birds of Prey Talon Crew trickled in last week that we wanted to post. The Talon Crew is amongst the most respected World Cup race crews in the world. Each year the Vail Valley Foundation utilizes approximately 200 volunteers each day during the Birds of Prey Race Week. This volunteer race corps, deemed the "Talon Crew" racks up a daunting 25,000 hours of volunteer service each year for the Birds of Prey. That works out to be roughly 1041 days or 2.8 years of service each year. Our sincere thanks goes out to the Talon Crew... without them the Birds of Prey would not be possible.

Enjoy a couple photos from members of the Talon Crew. Yes, there is volunteer work involved... however, if you are lucky you might just get your picture taken with a skiing legend like Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal!

If you are a member of the Talon Crew we encourage you to visit the official Talon Crew Blog HERE.
