The official blog for Vail Valley Foundation free concerts including Bud Light Street Beat, Bud Light Hot Summer Nights, Mountains of Music and ShowDown Town.
We post this for two reasons. One, because it is just another reason to enter the Costa Del Mar 2 Fly X-Stream at the Teva Mountain Games and two, because this is one of the events at the Mountain Games that does fill up.
Thus, if you are reading this, and, want to compete... you need to go register yesterday because space is limited. You can register for all events at the Teva Mountain Games HERE.
How often do you get the chance to measure your performance against that of an Olympian? If you're not an Olympic calibre athlete, perhaps never. Unless of course you enter the SoBe X-Country Mountain Bike Race, presented by Sprint at the Teva Mountain Games and try to pedal to the medal against 2008 Beijing Olympic Mountain Bike Team member Adam Craig.
Craig is one of the most recognizable names on the off-road cycling circuit, collecting 12 national championships titles in various disciplines of bike racing, including the 2007 and 2008 Elite U.S. National Cross Country crowns.
But Adam's competitive landscape extends beyond the world of cycling as he spends a portion of his free time serving as the co-driver of a two-man rally car racing team. In this role, he is responsible for deciphering instructions that explain what is around each blind corner and relaying them to the driver.
So clip in and tighten down that helmet because Olympian Adam Craig will be in the house when the start gun goes off for the SoBe X-Country Mountain Bike competition, presented by Sprint, on Saturday, June 6.
Check out new course profiles for both events below... click on each image for a larger version. Note that the profiles represent data as of 4.28.09... Special thanks to Delorme for supplying the GPS units to make this possible as the official GPS partner of the 2009 Teva Mountain Games.
Saturday, June 6 TRIUMPH DEVELOPMENT VAIL PASS 1/2 MARATHON:
We're halfway through our online public voting process to determine the band for the July 7 Bud Light Hot Summer Nights free show and Denver-based Frogs Gone Fishin' holds the lead by almost 800 votes over current runner-up Gaslight Street
As of this posting, we have received a total of 7,333 votes at hotsummernightsconcerts.com, with the Frogs definitely benefitting from having posted the contest on their website and sending it out to their fan base.
However, it aint over till it's over and we still have two more weeks for the public to register their votes. We'll announce the winning band on May 1.
In addition to the top two vote getters, Bonfire Dub has settled into third position, with Outformation, Great American Taxi, DJ Logic, Socialibrium and Global Noize holding down the 4-8 postions respectively in the poll.
The 2009 Bud Light Hot Summer Nights free concert series will officially kick off June 16 at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail with the Southern sounds of JJ Grey and Mofro. This show will signal the beginning of nine weeks of free music and dance shows, every Tuesday evening.
Time is running out. If you haven't voted yet, or you haven't voted enough, log on and show your support for one of our eight public pick bands. Do it today.
If Wednesday night's crowd is any indication, the fabulous 80's are still very much alive and well...and living in the Vail Valley's closets as a vast array of crazies of all shapes and sizes descended on Vail Village for the final Bud Light Street Beat show of the season, featuring Chadzilla & The Asteroids.
As Chad and company cranked out the tunes that transported the overflow crowd back to the days when everything was neon and the standup video game ruled the universe, the percentage of concert-goers clad in leg warmers, track suits, shoulder pads and Madonna lingerie outerwear grew with each new rendition of Van Halen, AC/DC and U2.
Of course, the chance to win a new pair of Atomic Snoop Daddies skis for the best 80's costume certainly did not dampen anyone's 80's enthusiasm, but there were those that obviously vowed to dress the part, contest or not.
In addition to the contest and the awarding of the Volvo C-30 Grand Prize to Reyna Romero of Leadville, the evening was capped off with an impromptu "stage show" as six young ladies, fluent in 80's fashion, headed out onto the stage to provide "rhythmic accompaniment" to the band's encore.
All in all, it was most certainly a night for the ages, at least 1980-89, but then that comes from someone whose wardrobe is an 80's revival, in and of itself.
If you didn't get enough 80's, or free music last night at Bud Light Street Beat be sure to check out Spring Back to Vail this weekend... free concerts from Chris Issak, O.A.R., world championships of pond skimming... you can get all that info HERE.

The first of three free shows for the 2009 Teva Mountain Games has officially been booked. Tamarama will kick off Mountains of Music for 2009 and ring in the Games as the first big act at Checkpoint Charlie.
Taking their name from a little known Australian beach where they grew up, Tamarama's Jay Lyon and Nicolas "Pottsy" Potts have nurtured a sound reflecting life on the shores of OZ. With a mix of folk, rock and reggae rhythms, breezy melodies and easy going lyrics, the duo's music represents the tranquility of ocean living.
Check back soon as we are close to announcing the remaining two acts including a large headliner!
The loudest installment of the free concert series Bud Light Street Beat gets underway tonight at 6pm at the Arrabelle at Vail Square when the all female AC/DC tribute band Hell's Belle's takes the stage.
Armed with a truckload of AC/DC classics, including “Back in Black”, “TNT”, “Hells Bells”, “Highway to Hell” and “You Shook Me All Night Long”, the Belles do more than justice to the Aussie legends. On more than one occasion, they have been told they manage to “out-AC/DC AC/DC”.
We know it is snowing pretty hard out there right now but have no fear... it does not typically hurt the attendance. Don't believe us? Check out the video below from last weeks John Brown's Body show. Similar conditions persisted last week and we still had thousands dancing in Vail Village... just bring a pair of gloves to keep your hands warm and the Bud Light cold.
