Listen to Rick Springfield's new album!

Rick Springfield released new album in May!

Springfield introduced his music to a new generation with the May 5th release of his album My Precious Little One, a collection of beautiful, original lullabies that will bring sweet dreams to children nationwide. Springfield wrote these songs for his two sons during the heady days of early fatherhood when the boys had trouble sleeping. His children are now in their early twenties and Springfield rediscovered the songs last year, tucked away in a drawer. Ten gentle tunes that will soothe and relax all who listen.

Don't miss Rick Springfield at the Vilar Performing Arts Center on Saturday, August 29 at 8pm. Tickets and information can be found HERE.

Reggae Star Eek-A-Mouse Brings Down The Curtain On 2009 Hot Summer Nights

He stands 6' 6" and his stage name comes from a racehorse that he frequently bet on...and frequently lost money on, along with being one of Jamaica's premier reggae stars. And, Ripton Joseph Hylton, better known as Eek-A-Mouse, will bring down the curtain on the 2009 edition of Bud Light Hot Summer Nights this coming Tuesday, August 18, at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater.

More than a quarter century of recording, global touring and enough years in residency in the suburbs of Irvine to justify an accent heavy in California-isms have hardly changed the dancehall godfather's husky Kingston patois. While a couple of decades removed from the Jamaican dancehall scene that solidified his reputation as one of the genre's most irreverent and oft-copied toasters, The Mouse, as he is fond of calling himself, hardly feels his career has peaked.

Oh, and by the way, when his racehorse finally won, The Mouse of course, had refused to back it.

The final Bud Light Hot Summer Night free concert of the summer gets underway at 6:30 p.m., with the gates of the Ford Amphitheater opening at 5:30.

Come one, come all and let's party down with Eek-A-Mouse.

International Evenings of Dance in New York Times

Dance Review Vail International Dance Festival
Pinned Together in Rhythmic Streams
By ALASTAIR MACAULAY
Published: August 10, 2009

VAIL, Colo. — On Sunday evening, after a perfect August day in the Rockies, hummingbirds hovered above the stream that runs beside the path to the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater here. The performance was, after Saturday’s, the second of two International Evenings of Dance organized and introduced by Damian Woetzel, the artistic director of the Vail International Dance Festival. The dancers (some of them European and Asian) had come from all over North and South America.

These evenings (most, not all, of the music was taped) covered a wide span of dance: Brazilian capoeira; Argentine tango; American modern dance from a span of eight decades; and ballet from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. Almost anybody would have learned something about dance’s range from watching. Each proved it was not just international caliber — worthy of performance in any of the leading dance capitals — but it also has international significance, with new partnerships and debuts that would please the hearts of fans thousands of miles away. If you watched both evenings, you often saw the same dancers tackling completely different repertory: tonight the Black Swan, tomorrow “Who Cares?”

My particular interest was to see Gabriel Missé, the Argentine tango dancer who so electrified me when he appeared in a single performance in November at Symphony Space in New York. He alone was worth the trip to Vail; his dancing makes me want to apply for the job of dance critic at The Buenos Aires Gazette. A reader advised me last year that Buenos Aires possesses other dancers as remarkable as Mr. Missé; if so, I’m hungry to see them all.

Rick Springfield on Californication!

Rick Springfield has signed on to play himself in four episodes of Californication in its third season this fall. Producers of the Showtime "dramedy" put out a casting call looking for “an actor who experienced huge fame in the 80’s to play themselves as a now down-on his-luck-ex-celebrity waiting tables to get by.” Go get em' Rick!

You can catch Rick Springfield at the VPAC on Saturday, August 29 and on Californication Sunday's at 10pm EDT on Showtime.

Dance Festival Makes Cover of New York Times

If you read the New York Times you may have noticed that the Vail International Dance Festival is featured on today's cover. It is not often that anything here in the Vail Valley makes the Times, let alone the cover and for that we are very thankful.

Enjoy Alaqstair MaCaulay's review of UpClose: Wendy Whelan Dancer & Muse and Morphoses 3.0 below.

Highlighting a Muse’s Full Résumé
By ALAQSTAIR MACAULAY
Published: August 9, 2009

VAIL, Colo. — On Thursday and Friday nights the Vail International Dance Festival looked both forward and back. An UpClose evening on Thursday, at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, was called “Wendy Whelan: Dancer and Muse.” The first half looked back over Ms. Whelan’s 24-year career (beginning in 1985) with New York City Ballet; the second half homed in on her work with the choreographer Christopher Wheeldon and, most recently, as a guest with Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company.

Vienna Teng to Play VPAC

Dance aficionados take the back seat for a few minutes today as we announce the first of two concerts booked at the Vilar Performing Arts Center as part of the 2009-2010 VPAC Concert Series. We still have a long ways to go confirming the rest of the winter season, however, we just could not wait to announce the first two shows. Have no fear Vail International Dance Festival fans, we will be posting some more videos and photos a little later today.

In a post a few minutes ago we announced that the Black Crowes have been confirmed for November 14. This is a huge booking for us and an act that will be amazing in the 530 seat VPAC.

The second confirmed show will be Vienna Teng. The songwriter, singer and pianist has released three critically acclaimed albums, landing her on three Billboard charts and in Amazon.com’s top ten. She regularly sells out theaters across the U.S. and Europe, fans travel hundreds of miles to catch a single show, and her opening sets for the likes of India.Arie, Joan Baez and Madeleine Peyroux end in standing ovations. Mere months after quitting her job as a software engineer in 2002, she was being interviewed on NPR and performing on The Late Show with David Letterman, who declared that he’d listened to her entire debut album and that there was “not a dud” on it. Her brand of sophisticated, piano-driven pop has been gathering accolades ever since: “seductive and transcendent” (Amazon.com), “gorgeously conceived…accomplished yet understated” (Paste), “singular among her peers” (Variety).

We are excited to present Vienna Teng at the VPAC on October 24 at 7:30pm. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 14 at 11am MST. More information can be found HERE.

Black Crowes to play VPAC

BREAKING NEWS:
The Black Crowes have been booked to play the VPAC.

As part of an extended leg of their “Stuck Inside Utopia” tour, the rock icons, one of the world’s foremost blues-oriented hard rock jam bands, will take the Vilar Performing Arts Center stage November 14 for a special 7:30 p.m. performance to kick off the Beaver Creek venue’s winter concert series.

Tickets for The Black Crowes will go on sale at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 14, with reserved seating in the theatre priced at $88.

At the time of their 1990 debut, the kind of rock n’ roll the Black Crowes specialized in was sorely out of style. Only Guns N' Roses came close to approximating a vintage Stones-style raunch, but they were too jagged to pull it off completely.

The Black Crowes, on the other hand, replicated that Stonesy swagger and Faces boogie perfectly. The band echoed classic rock without slavishly imitating their influences, and the band's nostalgic sound helped foster a long, popular career.

Having sold over 20 million albums, The Black Crowes were hailed by Melody Maker as "The Most Rock 'n' Roll Rock 'n' Roll Band in the World." The readers of Rolling Stone named the band the “Best New American Band” of 1990 and the group has toured with the likes of Aerosmith, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Who, AC/DC, The Grateful Dead and Neil Young.

Get your tickets early for this one folks. Tickets & more information can be found HERE.
