Many members of the Talon Crew, the volunteer corps from the Birds of Prey, have been putting in some quality time working for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and the surrounding area. Regarded as one of the hardest working crews on the Men's World Cup circuit, we are always thankful for their dedicated service and unparalleled work ethic each year here in Beaver Creek. Apparently the daunting 25,000 hours of volunteer service they rack up each year for the Birds of Prey is just not enough.
We are a little delayed in posting some of the photos below, however, we think it was worth the wait.

WED. FEB. 17, 2010:
Wow, what an amazing day in Whistler. Today was all about the women as they took center stage with their downhill. It was a beautiful sunny day and the temperature stayed cold all day. The track was well prepared and fast. It was a perfect day for a downhill with a perfect ending. Vail's own Lindsey Vonn took the gold and Julia Mancuso took the silver in the Women's Downhill. The home town girl scored big, and I was there to see it all.

The Men's Gate Judges were off today except of the gate crew. We only had light duty, just moving some poles around the course in preparation for tomorrow. After our second pass down the Men's course, we were shut off from the bottom and ended up watching the Women's Downhill from the top of their slalom start. We watched the American women race by and could hear the roar from the stadium below, knowing something big had happened.

After a quick stop at the Weasel House, I went to Whistler Village and was able to score a ticket to the Victory Ceremony. I joined Murray and Suzie Wood in their celebration of Whistler's own Maelle Ricker taking the Gold in Snowboarding. She is the first female Canadian to win Olympic Gold on home soil. A really big day as well for the Whistler community.

I can only image the celebration in Vail. Way to go Lindsey Vonn!
