Ski and Snowboard Club Vail lived up to their reputation Wednesday, outdistancing 39 other teams to capture the inaugural Conway Cup, presented by Korbel, the four team members moving on to this weekend's Korbel Ford Cup celebrity team competition in conjunction with the 2010 Korbel American Ski Classic.
Comprised of Georgia Wettlaufer, Eugennia Manseau, Tiffany Hoversten and Barrett Stein, Ski and Snowboard Club Vail advance to the Conway Cup, presented by Korbel, Finals, along with teams from Village Warehouse Wines, Snowell and The George. With a one run format against the clock, SSCV posted a quartet of times that earned them the top step of the podium, while Village Warehouse Wines, finished in the runner-up spot and Snowell took the bronze.
On hand to assist with the award ceremonies were Vince Conway, Dan's father, and Dani Conway, Dan's daughter. Conway passed away in May of 2009.
Contested on Vail Mountain's Golden Peak, the Conway Cup, presented by Korbel, officially kicked off the Korbel American Ski Classic, which is slated from March 17-21. Named for the late Dan Conway, Director of Racing for Vail and Vail Resorts, the event brought some of the fastest local racers in the Vail Valley together in a celebration of skiing and Conway, who touched racing in the Vail Valley at every level, from World Cup to NASTAR.
The 2010 Korbel American Ski Classic continues Thursday, March 18, with the Volvo Legends of Skiing Giant Slalom, followed by the free Bud Light Steet Beat concert, featuring Southern rockers Cowboy Mouth. Both events are free and open to the public at Golden Peak.
