Second Magic Bus Ready To Hit The Road This Month

The wheels on the bus will soon literally go round and round as the second Magic Bus, a mobile pre-kindergarten readiness "vehicle" will hit the road throughout the Vail Valley this month.

The Magic Bus program, funded by the Vail Valley Foundation and facilitated by The Youth Foundation, provides pre-kindergarten-aged children with the opportunity to discover the wonders of learning about their world, while also encouraging creative expression and nuturing natural curiosity.

Research into school success shows a direct link to the preparation that young children receive from the time they are born until they enter kindergarten. Children who have the opportunity to engage in stimulating cognitive activities and nurturing social-emotional relationships are already ahead of their peers when they enter kindergarten.

The Vail Valley Foundation initially launched the Magic Bus program in the late 1990's, consisting of a mobile library van that visited preschool centers throughout the valley in an effort to increase the literacy rates for Eagle County children. The program was revamped to focus on pre-kindergarten readiness in 2006.

The Foundation was able to retrofit the second Magic Bus, an 18-passenger people mover donated by the Beaver Creek Resort Company, courtesy of a generous grant from Vail Resorts. The seats were removed and the interior turned into a mobile classroom.
