How Colorado Won the 2015 World Champs

Does 2015 seem far away? Not if you’re part of the Vail/Beaver Creek team that’s been thinking about, and working toward, another World Championships since 1999. That’s when this area last hosted the World Champs; it also hosted in 1989. Very few towns can land the major event — especially for the third time.

But yes, the Vail Valley Foundation, which hosted the Worlds in 1989 and 1999, and which runs the Beaver Creek men’s World Cup event every season, will stage its third World Alpine Ski Championships in 2015. This is thanks to the process of lobbying and preparation that
began long before the FIS Congress made its selection last summer.
