Initial 2015 World Championships Coordination Commission Meetings Come To A Close

The initial 2015 World Alpine Ski Championships Coordination Commission meetings came to a close in Beaver Creek on Friday as members of the International Ski Federation, European Broadcasting Union, Tridem Sports, U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and Vail Valley organizers wrapped up discussions on the event management structure that will help guide the preparation and planning for the Championships over the next four and a half years.

“We had great meetings,” offered Vail Valley Foundation president Ceil Folz, “and we were able to achieve all of the things we needed to, namely, developing strong relationships with our new partners and building a confidence for them in our ability to host such a prestigious and large undertaking”.

Next up for Vail/Beaver Creek 2015 organizers will be attending the final inspection for the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany on September 20-21. Also on the agenda in the coming weeks will be a report to the Alpine Committee at the fall FIS meetings in Zurich, Switzerland and the World Championships Organizers Symposium, which will be held in conjunction with the FIS meetings.

2015 Coordination Commission Meetings Continue Thursday

Venue tours gave way to the formal meeting portion of the initial 2015 World Alpine Ski Championships Coordination Commission gathering in Beaver Creek Thursday as members of the International Ski Federation, European Broadcasting Union, Tridem Sports, U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and Vail Valley organizers outlined and discussed the proposed event management structure that will help guide the preparation and planning for the Championships over the next four and a half years.

The morning dialogue covered a great deal of ground, including major milestones, facilities, Organizing Committee structure, sports organization, media services, broadcasting and the FIS Transfer of Knowledge program between organizers.

Some major decisions on the horizon include the dates of the 2015 Championships, which should be finalized by November of this year, as well as the naming of the Organizing Committee, which is slated for early December. Organizers will continue to work closely with the EBU regarding the designation of the host broadcaster for the event.

While the initial Coordination Commission meetings come to a close on Friday, Vail/Beaver Creek 2015 organizers will participate in the final inspection for the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany later this month, while also traveling to the FIS Fall Meetings in Zurich, Switzerland to present a status report to the Alpine Committee.

The FIS Fall Meetings will also include a World Championships Organizer’s Symposium for key members of the 2011 (Garmisch), 2013 (Schladming, Austria) and 2015 organizing committees.

Initial 2015 World Championships Coordination Commission Meetings Open With Venue Inspections And TV Meetings

While Vail and Beaver Creek’s June 3 victory in the race to host the 2015 FIS World Alpine Ski Championships is still a fresh memory, the actual road to 2015 began today as key members of the International Ski Federation (FIS), European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Tridem Sports pay their initial visit to the Vail Valley September 8-10 for the opening World Championships Coordination Commission meeting.

Representing the FIS on the visit will be Secretary General Sarah Lewis, Communications Manager Riikka Rakic and Event and Sponsor Manager Marcel Looze. The EBU will be represented by Ingolfur Hannesson, head of Winter and Indoor Sports, along with Christian Pirzer, CEO of Tridem Sports.

The three-day Coordination Commission gathering will include tours of proposed venues along with meetings to discuss a wide range of topics relating to the planning and preparations for the 2015 World Championships.

Vail and Beaver Creek will play host to annual visits from the Coordination Commission, while also sending delegations to additional events and meetings for reporting and study purposes.
